When I wasn't out looking for backcountry watercolor scenes, my days were spent painting the river. The idea of hanging out
by the river in the mountains all day long sounds nice and all, but it ended up being more intense and challenging then I first imagined.
The process of these paintings made me think about Grad school and what I would actually learn if I went.
I've been throwing this question around for quite sometime. If I drop 50k on some schooling what would I actually learn? What I learned
this summer about discipline, about seeing and about painting is mind boggling. Plus it was all free. All I needed was an easel and a river.
So I guess in reality Grad school is mainly used for status. If I'm looking for a grant and my resume says, "I attended Yale" or "I spent
six years sitting by a river, looking, listening and learning," the odds are the first sentence is going to get me that grant.
