Portraits
Portraiture is more then just a likeness. A painted portrait can be a window into the sitters soul. Until recently portraits have been the only way to capture a person's image for posterity. With the invention of photographs, we are now capbable of capturing an individuals likeness, but only on a superficial level. A well done painting shows the viewer the inner thoughts of the sitter and allows for contemplation.
