For the past ten years, my summers have been spent painting in the mountains of Tuolumne Meadows. Tuolumne is just a small section of Yosemite National Park located in the high country above eight thousand feet. The beauty and purity of the mountains teaches me things about life that I couldn't learn anywhere else. There is something about being in the elements which opens up ones mind.

The high country is where it all starts. From these peaks and high mountain lakes, water finds it way down through the valleys, the farms and into the big cities until it's all used up. That's the real reason why this place is protected as a national park. It's real value lies in the fact that it’s the source of the water for two major cities in California - San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The water that flows east from the peaks is water for LA and the westward flow passes through Hetch Hetchy and on down to San Franscisco.

The pure water feeds the forests and brings life to the most remote mountain tops. The water, in glacial form, is what carved the canyons and created the lakes. The water has influenced every facet of life from the shape of the rocks to the spacing of trees. Water is the real artist, I'm just a student.
